To improve legal literacy of judges, to enrich understanding and application of transnational law and to enable judicial officials to continue education on emerging legal issues, Professor Charles Wharton from Harvard University, currently a visiting professor of law at the National Taiwan University, was invited by the Academy to speak on “Reasonable Expectation of Privacy in the Law of the United States” on March 17, 2017. Speaking to the trainees of the Academy as well as current prosecutors and judges, Professor Charles Wharton started off with his experience in the U.S. law and later incorporated recent court decisions in Taiwan related to issues concerning the infringement of privacy brought by new technology, discussing in depth the reasonable expectation of privacy and the right to privacy. People signed up eagerly to hear the speech, participants took part in the discussion passionately, and it came to an end successfully.
