Delegation from the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis Visits the Taiwan Crime Prevention Research Center on May 2, 2025

To promote international cooperation and bilateral collaboration in the field of crime prevention, the Crime Prevention Research Center (CPRC), Academy for the Judiciary, Ministry of Justice the delegation had the honor of welcoming a high-level delegation from the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis on May 2, 2025. The delegation included Hon. Senator Isalean Phillip, Minister of Youth Empowerment, Ageing & Disabilities, Social Development and Gender Affairs, and Hon. Senator Jahnel Nisbett, Minister of Health, Gender Affairs and Social Empowerment of Nevis Island Administration, , and six other officials. They were accompanied by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and received by President Wu Hsun-Lung of the Academy, along with the director Dr. Cheng Tien-Cheng of the Crime Prevention Research Center, and CPRC researchers and Academy staffs.
The delegation's visit aimed to gain insights into Taiwan’s institutional frameworks, policy initiatives, and research achievements in crime prevention, especially in the area of juvenile delinquency prevention. President Wu first extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests. Director Cheng then provided an overview of the CPRC’s mission, organization, researches, and recent achievements. Researchers of the Center presented briefings on key social issues of interest from the delegation, including “crime prevention” and the “social safety net”. The visit concluded with a roundtable discussion and bilateral experience sharing.
Minister Phillip expressed keen interest in learning about Taiwan’s strategies advantages and research achievements in crime prevention and juvenile delinquency prevention. She believed that the insights gained from this exchange would greatly contribute to reducing crime rates and enhancing youth crime prevention efforts in the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. The delegation commended Taiwan's efforts in judicial reform, crime prevention, offender rehabilitation and reintegration, and also shared their own initiatives, such as community-based neighborhood watch programs, collaborative enforcement involving mental health professionals and police, domestic violence prevention, and Nevis Island’s “Yes to Success” early intervention program for youth people. The discussions were held in a friendly and engaging atmosphere, with both sides benefiting greatly from the discussion forum.
Through today’s meaningful exchange, , the CPRC have set the stage for further progress in strengthening cooperation with the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis in efforts to advance youth empowerment, social development and gender affairs. The visit deepened mutual understanding of crime prevention strategies and criminal justice systems under different judicial frameworks. Both sides agreed to maintain ongoing contact in research and policy practice, fostering a closer collaborative relationship. The CPRC will continue to enhance cooperation and exchange with domestic and international academic institutions and practical agencies, jointly promoting social safety and justice. Working together, the CPRC and the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis will build a more inclusive and sustainable society, and contribute to global friendship and a better future!
