To encourage more talented people to enter the field of crime prevention and criminal policy research, the Academy for the Judiciary, Ministry of Justice held the 8th "Outstanding Thesis Award on Crime Prevention Research" final selection event on September 9th, 2021. This year, 20 Master's and Doctoral students have applied to participate in the competition, and the judges were Professor Yun-Hua YANG from National Chengchi University, Professor Yung-Lien LAI from Central Police University, Associate Professor Lan-Ying HUANG from National Taipei University, and Associate Professor Tzu-Te WEN from National Central University. Finally, a total of 12 students received awards. Among them were three Master's degree and two Ph.D. students who received the High Distinction Award and were rewarded individually with prize money of NTD 30,000 and NTD 50,000 respectively (same as below).
To promote the quality and effectiveness of this award, in addition to inviting the finalists to present their papers in person, this year a new requirement has been added, that is, the applicants need to submit their condensed theses in advance which will be examined by external scholars according to the different attributes of criminal law and criminology. It is only after passing both reviews can the finalists enter the selection process. For those who pass the review, the Academy for the Judiciary will also publish their papers in the form of a collection of monographs. In addition, to promote informatization of criminal policy, the winning entries will also be made available on the "Crime Prevention Research Database" website platform of the Academy for the Judiciary for public viewing and free download.
