The Academy for the Judiciary, Ministry of Justice (AJMJ) organized an international symposium titled "Navigating the Future: Legal Challenges in the Age of Artificial Intelligence," scheduled for October 2 and 3, 2024. However, the symposium has been canceled due to a two-day work suspension announced by the Taipei City Government in response to Typhoon Krathon.
To ensure that our judicial trainees could still benefit from this unique opportunity for international exchange, AJMJ invited several esteemed speakers and panelists to present on the morning of October 4. Among them were Professor Alexandra Bensamoun from the University of Paris-Saclay, Postdoctoral Researcher Clemens Danda from the DLR Institute for AI Safety and Security, Professor Mayu Terada from Hitotsubashi University, and Associate Professor Satoshi Narihara from Kyushu University.
Professor Alexandra Bensamoun delivered a talk titled “When AI Meets Art: How to Reconcile Innovation and Culture?” with Postdoctoral Researcher Clemens Danda as her panelist. Professor Mayu Terada presented her study entitled “Efforts and Limitations of AI Utilization in Japan during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Reflecting on the Challenges of COCOA.” Associate Professor Satoshi Narihara focused on “Artificial Intelligence, Mis/Disinformation, and Trustworthy Information Ecosystems.”
All the scholars participated in enthusiastic discussions with our judicial trainees. After the presentations, Professor Mayu Terada and Postdoctoral Researcher Clemens Danda had lunch with President Li-Ling Ker and AJMJ’s staff. During this meal, they exchanged observations and insights on the training of legal professionals in various countries, as well as the development of gender equality in Taiwan.
We hope our judicial trainees find inspiration in the informative discussions and meaningful exchanges during this event, continually broadening their perspectives as they confidently face new challenges in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.
