President Tsai Pi-Yu of AJMJ along with Mentor Lin Yan-jun visited Germany and Luxembourg to investigate the mechanism for legal education, examination, training and recruitment, on-the-job training for prosecutors, and correctional system between May 26 and June 4, 2018. This visit was driven by Taiwan’s current reform in its legal education, examination, training and recruitment. Therefore, the AJMJ delegation paid a visit to the Judicial Examination Office, Ministry of Justice, Hessen( Justizprüfungsamt, Justizministerium Hessen), Frankfurt District Court; (Amtsgericht Frankfurt am Main) and Frankfurt Public Prosecutor’s Office(Staatsanwaltschaft Frankfurt am Main) to understand how internship is implemented and operated under the German volljurist system. In addition, to better understand how the legal education in German universities stays in sync with industry practices, the delegation visited the law school of Uni Trier to investigate German law education. The delegation also visited the German Judicial Academy, a German judicial training organization similar to AJMJ, to exchange ideas on the judicial training systems of Germany and Taiwan. The Frankfurt Prison was also investigated during the visit to gain further insight into the German correctional system. In terms of Luxembourg, the delegation visited CVRIA, ECJL, and the Prosecutor General’s Office in Luxembourg to understand EU’s legal training and Luxembourg’s judicial training and recruitment. This visit allows the Academy to better understand the mechanism for legal education, examination, training and recruitment in Germany and Luxembourg and to exchange ideas with the judicial organizations of the two nations on practical internship arrangements. This visit also offered many inspirations to Taiwan’s planning of a new system. Furthermore, through the visit, the Academy deepened its partnership with the foreign judicial training organizations, explored international collaboration opportunities and facilitated practical diplomatic relations. The effort hopefully will be conducive to AJMJ’s continued exchanges with its international counterparts.
