Inviting NCCU Professor of Law Shi-Ming Jiang and Lawyer Hui-Guang Wang as keynote speakers, the 12th seminar of judicial reform on “Reinventing Legal Ethics” was held by the Academy on January 6, 2017 for discussion on regulations related to legal ethics and the supervisory system in Taiwan. Professor Shi-Ming Jiang and Lawyer Hui-Guang Wang, who have long been concerned with the issue of legal ethics in the academic and legal sectors respectively, discussed how to uphold the professionalism and independence of lawyers, the establishment of a lawyer assessment system, and the perfection of the existing lawyer disciplinary system, making suggestions on possible reforms. In addition, Director Bang-Liang Lin of the Department of Prosecutorial Affairs, Ministry of Justice and Division Chief Judge Rui-Bin Lin of the Taiwan High Court were also specially invited as discussants to give their responses from the perspectives of a judge and a prosecutor, as well as exchanging opinions with seminar participants to yield substantial results.
