On November 11-12, 2014, the international symposium on “Proportionate Punishment to Crime-sentence recommendation and sentencing” was held by the Academy for Judiciary.  Moderators for the four sessions are Chen-huan Wu, Political Vice Minister of Ministry of Justice, Ming-tang Chen, Political Vice Minister of Ministry of Justice, Pi-yu Tsai, Administrative Vice Minister of Ministry of Justice, and Tian-sheng Wang, Chief Prosecutor of Taiwan High Prosecutors Office, respectively.  Meanwhile, Arie Freiberg, Emeritus Professor of Monash University, Australia, Ricardo Hinojosa, Chief Judge of US District Court for the Southern District of Texas, USA, Takuichi Kawakami, Professor of Waseda Law School of Waseda University, Japan, and Heng-da Hsu, Associate Professor of College of Law of National Cheng-chi University, Taiwan were invited to be speakers.  Panelists included Tsai-chen Tsai, Director General, Criminal Department, Judicial Yuan, Rong-geng Li, Associate Professor of College of Law, National Taipei University, Tsann Wu, Judge of Supreme Court, and Yu-wei Hsieh, Assistant Professor of College of Law, National Taiwan University.  Precious viewpoints and experiences regarding the design of sentencing system and difficulties encountered in practice were shared.
