Organizing the Teaching Activities of the 40th Probation Officer Training Course

To provide the trainees of the 40th class of the Probation Officer Training Course with a practical understanding of probation and rehabilitation, the Department of Protection, Ministry of Justice, in cooperation with the Academy and the Taiwan Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office, has arranged for a total of 38 participants, including 8 trainees, current Probation Officers from the Taiwan Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office, researchers and administrative staff from the Crime Prevention Research Center, Academy for the Judiciary, Ministry of Justice to make site visits to the Taoyuan Psychiatric Center, Ministry of Health and Welfare and other judicial protection and social labor enforcement institution.
Since the majority of protective control cases were violations of the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act, the first visit was to the "Taoyuan Psychiatric Center, Ministry of Health and Welfare". In addition to welcoming the participants in person, Hospital Superintendent CHIU Hsien-Chang, also arranged for the relevant supervisors to give detailed explanations on drug addiction treatment, the utilization of wearable devices for smart medical applications, the conformity of medical resources and integration of community resources and so on, so that the participants could understand the drug abuse prevention and control policy and its effectiveness. A visit to the Methadone Maintenance Therapy was also arranged to learn about the treatment of drug addiction. The second and third stops of the visit were to the "Taoyuan City Drug Abuse Prevention Center" and the Taiwan Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office for a briefing on the "Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Prevention Center of Taoyuan City Government" to understand the coordination of resources between the Ministry of Justice and other agencies. In the last leg of the trip, a visit to the social labor enforcement institution, "The Carpenter's House", was scheduled to learn how probation and rehabilitation can help the underprivileged groups to develop their expertise and reintegrate into society through public-private collaboration.
In their speeches, Chief Prosecutor WANG Chun-Li and Deputy Director LIN Che-Hui stated that probation work is an important part of criminal justice and plays a very important role in the social safety net, especially in the probation of drug offenders. They both expected that all the trainees will maintain their enthusiasm and professional skills in the future so that all the probationary services can be carried out smoothly.
